Halo Marathon Details!

Surprise!

We've decided to put on a Halo Marathon to prevent too much downtime between marathons. The marathon will only be 24 hours, but we will still give out prizes and treat it like any other of our marathons.

You will be able to view us LIVE from our website and also interact with us through chat/email.

Details:
Games: We will beat Halo 1,2,3 campaigns all in legendary, with any left over time we will play the viewers!

Time/length: We will start on Friday September 26th at 6pm cst and end Saturday the 27th at 6pm cst . (24 hours)

We all had a great time, thanks everyone who called NOA or emailed them. We want to give a big shout out to STARMEN.NET the godfathers of the ebsiege. Without them this marathon would never of happened. We hope we were able to help in the effort of bringing the Earthbound/Mother series to the United States. We've gotten word from a couple of people that NOA received somewhere around 2,000 phone calls asking about Earthbound/Mother this weekend.GREAT job guys, thanks for being kind and respectful to the Nintendo representatives. Hopefully we will find out soon if we've made any impact. As soon as we know we will relay the message. If you won a prize we've emailed you, please respond with your shipping address and also your shirt size if you were a grand prize winner. EarthBound Marathon Details!

Usually I leave a "thank you" post up for a week for the previous marathon,but since the turn around for our Earthbound marathon is so quick I need to unleash the details immediately. Before I do, I would like to thank everyone who contributed. Whether you donated or posted about us, dugg us, promoted us, you all were great; We love you all. The Grand total raised for St. Jude is now over $6,100!!

Earthbound Marathon Details:
We will be streaming a feed live on our website of us playing Mother 1,2,&3 from August 28 at 4pm till August 30 at 11 pm (55 hours straight!). We will feature chat along with video to create an interactive event. Our main goal will be to encourage phone calls to Nintendo of America (NOA) requesting Earthbound to be brought to the U.s in some way shape or form.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

This is directly copied and pasted from Starmen.net and explains what we will be doing. We will be asking everyone watching the marathon to call Nintendo of America. Our request to them will be to please port over Mother 3 to North America, bring EarthBound to the Virtual Console, or even ask about a potential Mother 1+2+3 DS Compilation. Let them know you want to see more Mother/EarthBound in the US again!

We need as many people to keep calling in for the best impact. Previous examples of this effective maneuver is when Zelda: Master Quest was brought to North America after 500 people called Nintendo. The previous PK-Call'Ns made a definite impact on Nintendo of America. NoA Representative's still talk about how many calls they gotten during these events. In fact, recent information tells us that Mother 1+2 was flagged for discussion due to a high volume of calls during a previous PK Call'N. However the calls stopped and it was assumed that interest had died and it was never brought up again. This time the interest won't die and the calls won't stop.

Be original and polite in your call and mention why you are calling. Mention you read about Mother 1+2 in Nintendo Power, or heard about Mother 3 released in Japan, the Mother 3 iTunes tracks, or have just been a long-time fan of that wacky SNES game from years ago. Or even ask them straight out, "where is EarthBound?" And keep in mind you want to talk about EarthBound, not promote an event or a web site so....

...DO NOT MENTION PK-CALL'N, EB SIEGE, THESPEEDGAMERS OR STARMEN.NET!

The NoA Representative might correct you and refer to the SNES EarthBound. They may assume that you didn't know about this game. Don't be abrupt, they are only providing info that they feel would help you. The NoA Representative will likely give an address to write in to Nintendo. If you would like to write to NoA check out PK Mail'N! They may ask you about your subscription to Nintendo Power, so try to be polite and understand that they are trying to keep you informed.

The NoA Representative most likely will have no new information. Politely thank them and tell them you will be a calling back soon to check up to see if any new information is available. Call back again in a few days time to see if any new information is available. If not, thank them again and call back once more in a few days! If there is still no new information, then ask to speak to an available manager and see if they can help you out. Call as often as you can and get your friends or family members involved as well! And this time don't worry about the length of the call. Ask what you want to ask and show that you are a fan of the series! But always be sure to be polite and thank the person you are speaking with when you call. Following this should result in a smooth call!

The 72 Hour Metroid Marathon starts on Augusts 15th @6pm cst. We will be raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The marathon will be streamed live via webcam on our website. The webcam feed will give you both a view of the games we will be playing and also a view of the action going on in the room. We will give out prizes following each game to viewers regardless of where they live.

PRIZE INFORMATION:

We have big news regarding the prizes that will be given away during the marathon. After the completion of certain games we will be giving away two prizes, one for Euro viewers and one for viewers in the states. If no Euro prize is listed, it means ALL viewers are eligible to win because the prize is not limited by region. For example, our Metroid clock prize will work fine wherever you live, however our U.S version of Metroid for the Nes cannot be played on a European Nes console.

Rules: In order to be entered to win a prize (except the grand prize) you must send an email during the game thats being played for that said prize. Each prize is given away upon completion of its game. This will be less confusing during the marathon.

In order to be entered to win the GRAND PRIZE, any donation a $1 or over will gain 1 entry, $5 and over will get you two, and $20 and over for 3 entries. Maximum 3 entries

We want to thank everyone who watched. We had a blast! Thanks Paul for stepping in and commentating for an endless amount of hours. Paul is now an official member of the team. We also want to thank Phil for the amount of effort he put into this marathon. The Mario marathon pretty much featured his skills.

It gives you a list of all the marathons that have been scheduled, almost like a TV guide. I feel it will be instrumental in getting the word out for us and further broadening our community. Brilliant idea if you ask me.

TheSpeedGamer's have the biggest community of any of the gaming marathon groups, and also are the longest standing. I wanted to thank everyone for making that possible. We promise to only get bigger and better.

I also want to formally announce our Zelda Guinness world record run. We don't have a date set, but I'm getting in contact with Guinness to prepare for our run. We will be doing this event for charity. Keep visiting back for more info!

In doing these marathons we've gained many friends from around the world. I've asked the opinions of some of the other team members and have formed an idea. Starting with the Metroid Marathon in August, we are going to team up with Dwaggie from England. Dwaggie is going to play Metroid Prime 1(possibly prime2 also) and have his girlfriend (Muir) commentate with him. It will be a smooth transition from our games to his, then back to ours. It will be as if we are all in the same room.

In the future we are considering having other "TheSpeedGamers" teams from around the world host their own events while we broadcast them on our website. These events would happen if, for example, there was a 3 month span that we weren't able to find time to host a marathon. This way we can ensure all our viewers wont go long stretches of time without a gaming marathon, and more importantly, we can raise more money for various charities. This will also cater to a bigger variety of personalities and interests. We'd like to think everyone loves us, but we know everyone is different.

I am not taking requests from emails to host a marathon; they will all be hand picked by our team. One of these marathons probably wont occur for awhile now, not within the next 6 months. Our first guest player from around the world though, will debut during our Metroid Marathon (like I stated above)

It was brought to our attention that another group has done a Mario Marathon this past weekend. While we salute them on the job they did in raising money for a great cause, it does hurt our upcoming marathon. We're sure we are going to be accused of copying them and other such things but everyone should make sure to keep your cool. I thought about completely changing the Mario Marathon for another franchise, but after thinking on the subject for awhile I came to the conclusion that it would be impractical to switch on such a short notice. We will do our best to keep our marathon fresh and unique. Msico Aka Phillip, informed me he will be donating his copy of Mario Kart Wii (NTSC) for the grand prize in the Mario Marathon. Thank you very much Phil for all your help!

We wont be gaming for a charity this time around. We will use the 48 hours to promote the 72 Hour Metroid Marathon in August which we will be raising money for St. Jude. There is a possibility we will be having a SpeedGamer from overseas take part in the Metroid marathon if everything works our properly; no official word yet.

Hey guys,

I decided it's about time to inform everyone about our upcoming Mario Marathon, and also to give you info about our last event and future events. First of all, I wanted to thank everyone who was involved in the Zelda Marathon. It was a huge success even though we fell just short of beating all 7 games in 72 hours. WE WILL COMPLETE ALL 7 IN 72 HOURS. Our next attempt might be months away, but it will be done. We surpassed our monetary goal of $1337 and raised $1355 for Giggles-Therapy! Thanks everyone who was there to supports us, donate, advertise, or was a part of in anyways.

Now, about our Mario Marathon. We will not be taking donations for the Mario marathon. We are going to use this 24 hour marathon to promote our next charity event in August for St. Jude. At that time we will be doing a Metroid marathon. There has been a lot of confusion about what games we will be playing during the Mario marathon so I'll clear that up. 7

Thanks everyone who watched, donated, advertised, and participated. We raised $1355!!! (Updated We have past LEET status due to Andreas Merkell's $50 donation today, june 18th) for Giggles-Therapy! , a local Autism organization. We got about 95% through the games and are very frustrated we did not complete them. However, we are overall pleased about the event.

I will be updating this post throughout the night and tomorrow. I need to clean up and get some sleep but wanted to at least post something for you guys. I'll post some more in about an hour.

8:00 PM (Friday) - TheSpeedGamers are underway with Britt leading. He is done stretching and ready to go on The Legend Of Zelda. Wish em luck guys! All updates after this one will be made UNDER the streaming videos below.

10:00 PM (Friday) Britt finished The Legend of Zelda at 9:31 and has already started dominating Zelda II (Links Adventure). Hopefull he can do as well with this one as he did the first one!

11:50 PM (Friday) Britt is still working away at Zelda II. He is moving along pretty smoothly. Hopefully he can keep it up. Also we have reached the $100 marker! To hear the donaters names just listen in to the main webcam because I try to read them pretty often. Right now our highest donater is Philip Elder with $65! Oh yah one last thing if any of you guys are having trouble creating an account to talk in the chat room send an email to thespeedgamers@gmail.com with your problem and I will do my best to help you. For any other tips to keep the video and other things running as smooth as possible just listen in to my random advice.

3:33 AM (Saturday) Britt has now completed the Zelda II meaning two games down and five to go! Now Mik has began Zelda A Link to the Past and is about 45 minutes into it. Wish em luck! Also we have reached the $150 marker! Keep up the awesome work guys =) Ill try to update again soon.

6:45 AM (Saturday) Mik handed the controller off to Tyler who is now moving along very smoothly in the game. Hopefully he can keep up the progress.

9:48 AM (Saturday) Tyler is still doing awesome. He is doing his best and pushing strong. Once again wish em luck! Also are donations are currently at $175 so keep the donations coming in!

2:26 PM (Saturday) Tyler has beaten Link to the Past and we are now starting on Ocarina of Time! The Giggles-Therapy donations have reached about $250! Keep it up! guys!

6:23 PM (Saturday) We are halfway through with Ocarina of Time and have raised over $400 for Giggles Therapy so far. Were gonna keep chuggin along, and you guys stay tuned in and keep the donations flowin!

8:00 PM (Saturday) 24 HOURS DOWN! 48 TO GO!!!! Yes 1 day down and 2 left to go. Rob is currently playing Ocarina Of Time and was doing awesome until he ran into a little mishap... yah the Wii froze... but dont worry we brought in Rob's Wii which had a file that was only about 30 minutes behind the current one. So a little time lost but atleast its nothing we cant recover from. We are currently at $433 in donations! So keep up the awesome work guys. I will do my best to keep you guys updated here on the blog but its a little harder since I lost my voice meaning I wont be on the laptop as much but expect something in a few hours because I will make sure Britt keeps things updated.

4:14 am (Sunday) We ran into our first major issue. The capture card causes the screen to be almost completely black to where Majora's Mask is unplayable. Now we are using our webcam to broadcast the game live instead of a direct feed. Majoras Mask is the only game that will have this problem since it is the only game being played on the Nintendo 64. So until we beat Majora's Mask we will have a webcam facing our tv while playing, but still maintaining audio commentary. Rob beat Ocarina of Time at about 2:30 am and we have raised $530 to this point. Currently we are working on getting cam2 up.

5:08 pm (Sunday) Majora's Mask is taking longer than expected... yah I know thats bad to hear. Sorry guys we are doin our best but lack of sleep is getting to us! We will do out best to get back on track. Wish us luck!

11:47 pm (Sunday) With Majora's Mask out of the way there is no stopping us. Tyler is tearing Wind Waker apart now and we are also back to our better looking setup. Hopefully Tyler can keep this pace up so he will be done in no time! Also our donations is currently up to $735 which is awesome. So keep those donations rolling in and get ready to see some crazy stuff =)

1:45 am (Monday) Right now Tyler is still going strong and dominating Wind Waker. Lets hope he can keep this going so we can move onto Twilight Princess. Also if your listening in right now we are taking lots of song requests so feel free to send them in! And remember to keep donating for the cause!!

6:21 am (Monday) Tyler has almost completed Wind Waker! I hope you guys enjoyed his awesome game play along with Wind Waker's awesome graphics. Now get ready for an awesome boss fight and then its time for Twilight Princess!!! Also I would like to point out that we have a total counter so that you guys will know the current total we are at. The counter can be found at the top off this post. Our current total is $867 so keep up the awesome work guys!!!

11:25 am (Monday) Tyler completed Wind Waker around 8:30 so thats means there was only one game left which is Twilight Princess only we ran into one very small problem.... the problem is the person scheduled to play is very ill and can not get make it. But don't worry msico one of our viewers and highest dona tors has drove over to beat twilight princess. Yes you heard me, one of our viewers has now joined TheSpeedGamers and is doing his best to help complete the goal of 7 games in 72 hours. Also we have reached $973 in donations which is really awesome! I would like to write more but I need to get back to the channel. I will try to update again soon and guys keep those donations coming in!

1:00 pm (Monday) Philip (misco) is moving smoothly through Twilight Princess. Lets hope he can keep this pace up. As for the deadline which is currently 8:30 pm (due to technical difficulties which everyone in the channel agreed upon) who knows if we will be close only time will tell. As for donations we are currently at $1071 which is $19 away from how much we raised for St Jude. So keep those donations comming in and sit back and watch Philip speed game through Twilight Princess for the Wii.

2:30 pm (Monday) Philip aka misco is not holding back on Twilight Princess and is just destorying it. Lets hope he can keep this pace up and we will see how things turn out. Also guys we have BEAT our old donation record which was $1090 because now we are currently at $1187 and we don't plan on stopping there so lets keep those donations rolling in. I would also like to point out our two top donators who are both around $200 and the usernames we recognize them as are Muir and Fettouhi so guys if you see them give them many many thanks!

6:00 pm (Monday) So far we have raised $1,222!! Great job guys! Only 3 hours left in the marathon (9.00pm cst) Phillip is just about to start the Desert Temple.

9:00pm (Monday) We got so close to finishing but finished just short. We raised a grand total of $1,305 !

Guys we are almost there! Everyone is working on trimming our times down a little bit. The prizes are still uncertain, but we will have it all worked out by Friday. This is our last leg of promotion till the event, so it's time to go all out. Post in forums, submit stories to websites, anything and everything. Sorry for not updating lately, we have all been pretty busy. TheSpeedGamer's promo is in this weeks episode of the Wiicast! Like I've said before in other posts, Will D'angelo puts on an awesome show and we owe him very much for all the help he has given us. A big percentage of our forum members and viewers are from Will's mentioning of us on his show and blog.

Update: Our next marathon has been pushed back a week to Friday June 13th.

Link beat Samus 3-1 in a best of 5 Brawl. This means we will attempt 7 Zelda titles in 72 hours again starting Friday June 13th at 8pm cst through the 9th. The charity we will be gaming for is uncertain, although we do know it will be for autism;email us at thespeedgamers@gmail.com with suggestions. WE WILL NOT FAIL! The Metroid marathon will be played most likely in August.

Pre Event

We are going to hold a Pre event to determine and then announce our next marathon. A level 9 Samus and Link are going to fight it out on Super Smash Bro's Brawl in a best of 5 match, 2 stock, no items, on Final Destination. The winner's series is which marathon will be taking place on June 6th-9th. The loser's series will be played later on in the summer. We will be gaming for Autism in our next marathon regardless.

Also, we will be reading emails during the match and taking 5 challengers after the conlcusion of Samus v.s Link

Come to our website on Thursday Arpil 3rd at 9 PM cst to watch the epic battle. You can also catch a glimpse of what our new capture card looks like in action!

Metroid has dominated the polls, so we are declaring it the winner.
HOWEVER, Metroid still has one more hurdle to clear. We would like to attempt the 7 Zelda titles in 72 hours again. No matter what, at some point we will be playing metroid, but it could come after the second attempt at Zelda. I'll let you guys know how we're going to decide around noon cst Friday.

Our next date is set though, June 13th-16th starting at 8pm cst. Which game series? only time will tell.

St. Jude Update

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital sent us a prepaid envelope today to put our checks in, and also to select our prizes. Heres what it looks like.(Click image to enlarge)

at first we chose to check "check here to donate all prize costs back to St.Jude." but then unchecked it and added a backpack.....We did this because we thought mailing out 30 T-shirts would be too hard and cost us too much money. Also, this way St. Jude would gain more in donations, sorry guys. Although, they did send us a T-shirt with the envelope. Here's Luke below modeling it.

As soon as we receive our receipt and plaque, I will post pictures here.

Currently Metroid is dominating in the newest poll to see which series you guys would like to see us do a marathon of.

The 30 game list of possible marathon series has been narrowed down to the final 10. The list of 10 will be left up for about a week. Go to our forums to vote for the marathon series of your choice. After it closes we will have a poll to see whether everyone wants to see us attempt Zelda again first, or play the winning series and hold off on Zelda till later in the summer. Just a reminder that our next marathon is June 13th-16th.

There are only 2 people I still need to give virtual console prizes to. If you haven't gotten your's yet please email me at thespeedgamers@gmail.com. For those of you expecting prizes in the mail, they should be there within 2 weeks, email me as soon as you receive them.

Regarding the game, at some point we want to attempt the 7 console Zeldas in 72 hours again, exactly when is up to you. As soon as the next gaming series is voted upon in our forums, we will hold another poll asking everybody if they would rather us make our second attempt at Zelda first, and play the game everyone voted on towards the end of summer .

Next, right now I'm working on a summary video of our last marathon, just for laughs. Look for that to be posted in the coming days.

I just got off the phone with St.Jude, they were really helpful in giving us info about how we should send the money. They said they were aware of our marathon and would be sending us a plaque and a T-shirt for every $35 we raised(thats over 30 t-shirts! Unless I'm misunderstanding). I'm gonna try to find a way to get these shirts to you guys.

We sent them our info weeks ago, we had no idea they had kept up with us. I checked my voice mail since I had missed a call (I work in the basement of my college therefore I get no reception). I saw it was a 1(800) number and figured it was them. Sure enough it was.

I will post pictures of the plaque and also post the receipt ASAP.

All good things must come to an end...for now

Wow, we can't believe it's finally over, I think we are more sad than happy. We gained so many new friends and had such a good time doing this event. We completed our main goal and that is raising $1,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Our grand total was just shy of $1,100. Theres so many people we could thank, so tomorrow we are going to make a list. Unfortunately we can't put everyone of the viewers because of the massive response we got, but first and foremost we have to thank everyone that tuned in. We did not complete our goal of 7 games in 72 hours with only three gamers. It is possible though, and we will attempt this feat again later this Summer. We learned from this experience and now know how much of a factor fatigue can play. Our Broadcast ran on for 82.5 hours and in that time we had over 12,000 views.

This will not be our last marathon, we will be doing another one at the beginning of the summer and like I said earlier, we will be attempting 7 Zelda games in 72 hours again towards the end of the summer. We might also do weekly broadcasts to stay in touch with our viewers and play them head to head in games such as smash bros brawl.
We will be putting up a list of possible Marathon games for you guys to vote on later today around 2pm central.

One quick thing before I end, donations WILL be open for the rest of the week as we are still aiming to reach $1337 status! Which would be very 1337. Keep it up guys were about $247 away, if I did math correctly

7:08 pm Friday: First Zelda... Complete.

7:52 p.m. Friday: Britt is still going strong. With the first one down he has already begun the second and is well on his way.

8:41 p.m. Friday: Britt is having some trouble with one part of Adventure of Link but since he did beat the first one so quickly he has some time to spare. Lets hope it doesn't take too long!

10:19 p.m. Friday: Britt is moving along. Adventure of Link is one of the hardest Zeldas so once britt gets this done things should start moving along smoothly again. Oh yah we are currently at $134.17.

12:00 a.m. Saturday: Britt is doing awesome but still is on Adventure of Link. He is looking a little sleepy guys so come on and bring in some support, send in some emails for us to read out loud, and remember to DONATE!! Remember its for a good cause!

3:27 a.m. Saturday:Britt has BEAT Adventure of Link FINALLY! We have also reached $201.74 in donations! Very awesome. So keep it up guys. We average around 30 viewers on the main feed and 15 on the host feed which isn't bad for it being the middle of the night! Looks like it's Tyler's turn to take on the 3rd Zelda aka Link to the past! Wish him luck!

1:47 p.m Hey guys sorry about the long wait between updates I (Chase) fell asleep and I have been the only one updating the blog. But I am awake now and should be for awhile now so expect more updates. Currently Tyler is pushing through Link to the past and is getting close to the end! He has been awake for roughly 30 hours so if he does anything that didn't seem too smart its because of the lack of sleep. So guys keep donating and checking back to the blog for more information. Oh yah the current donations are at $308. Keep up the awesome work!

6:03 p.m. Saturday: Link to the past completed.

6:43 p.m. Saturday: Tyler got all the way to the last boss and was just too exhausted to take on Gannon so he passed the controller to Daniel who then quickly defeated the boss. So with Link to the Past completed we have 4 zelda games left! Daniel has now started on Ocarina Of Time. Wish him luck! We've gotten up to around 80 viewers at once so thats awesome!! Also we have received $505.30 in donations!

9:33 p.m Saturday: Daniel is working on Ocarina of Time right now and he seems to be doing awesome. He is currently on the Forrest Temple. Lets hope he can keep this pace up! We currently have $553.05! I would like to point out our top 2 Donaters which are Debra Halleron who donated $81.01 and Geoffrey Blagdan who donated $80 not too long ago BUT also donated $50 at the very beginning meaning he donated a total of $130 which is amazing. Thanks guys! Also remember we need 100 diggs so we can see brandon shave his head!!!

2:40 a.m Saturday:Sorry about the long wait between blog updates but I have been relaxing and taking it easy because as you can see Tyler and Rob took over for a few so I decided to take some time off. I hope their doing an awesome job. Currently Daniel is about 80% done with Ocarina of Time (so he says). So lets hope he keeps pushing strong. Britt is getting ready to take on Majora's Mask! We are currently at $601.30 total in donations which is very awesome! Also we got to see Brandon get his head shaved!! I hope many of you got to see that because it was pretty awesome. Alright well I plan on making the update very soon so don't worry and you will be hearing from me soon!

6:03 a.m: Saturday: Daniel has defeated Ocarina of Time!! Looks like its Britt's turn to show us what he can do! Wish em luck!

9:27 a.m. Saturday: I was just woke up from a 2 hour nap to attempt to fix our main feed web cam which crashed for no reason. If this happens again just head to the other web cam which is yet to crash and we will update you on whats happening! Britt may look like he is running a little slow because when the web cam went down it was the main feed which focused on the game and he didn't want you guys to miss too much so he slowed down his play... well the video stayed down for nearly an hour and a half! Hopefully we can make up for lost time but we may have to extend our deadline to 6:30 p.m. Monay due to that lost time. But who knows theres still a lot of time left so stick with us!

1:15 p.m. Sunday: I was currently just woke up after another 2 hours because the web cam went down AGAIN! This time only for about 5 to 10 minutes so we will be fine. I think I have the problem fixed now and hopefully things will run smooth from now on. Thanks to everyone who has stuck it out with us the whole time!!! You guys are awesome. Oh yah our donation total right now is $634.37!! Great work but keep those donations comming in. Hopefully you will hear some good news from me soon!

8:30 p.m Sunday:Britt has decided he will take a nap before attempting the final temple of Majora's Mask so that means currently our progress on MM is on hold. Don't worry though because we will be returning to Majora's Mask to finish off ganon when he wakes up. Okay so now we have Tyler playing Wind Waker so lets hope he picks up the pace!

10:44 p.m. Sunday: Wow we just received three donations two which were $13.37 which is awesome!!! Or well I should say leet. So yes as promised we plan on giving erik a mohawk on live feed in the second channel! So stick around for that. As for Tyler he is destroying Wind Waker. Donations are currently at $780. Game Details:
-3 web cams will be used to keep traffic minimal and to prevent lag for viewers. All the audio will be from the same source so that you can here the host clearly. The 3 web cams will give you different angles while all including a view of the host and the game being played.
-3 gamers will be completing 7 games in 72 hours. Heres the list of games again.

During each session (session being the time between the start of a game and the ending) everyone who e-mailed us during that session will be put into a drawing for that specific session. No matter if you send us 1 email or 100, you have the same chance of winning. After the completion of a game a name will be drawn and announced using a randomizer program. That means any one person can have a total of 7 chances to win if you send us an email during all 7 sessions. In the emails you don't need to say anything in particular like "enter me in the contest", you're automatically entered. We would simply like you to speak your mind, say whatever you want, ask whatever you want. Please do not use multiple email accounts! You can email us multiple times on one account, we encourage that and would love your feedback; just don't use multiple email accounts to enter more than once in each session. If you get caught doing this we will have to disqualify you from the drawing. The prizes are sent both via Mail, and also through Nintendo's Shop channel gift system. This prize give away is a worldwide event, not limited to America. I'm not real sure on how the Virtual gift system, works..I'm hoping I can send Virtual console games to everyone, I'll do some more research and report my findings. Heres our reason behind our decision:
After thinking awhile on the topic of donations, I’ve came to a conclusion. At first I didn’t want to take any donations to avoid any controversy. I had a change of heart and have decided that since we are going to be gaming for 72 hours straight we might as well do it for a good cause. The next decision was what charity should we donate to? I thought of Childs Play because gaming and Childs Play go hand in hand…no brainer. But then I wanted to think for a little bit longer before I took a leap and announce a charity. After a couple of minutes I knew exactly where the money would go. You will be hard pressed to find anybody who cancer has not affected their lives. Going through the list of people involved in the marathon triggered the idea initially.Two of the three possible hosts have lost very close family members due to cancer, and I personally would not be able to handle mentally what they have had to. Furthermore, several of my close friends that won’t be doing the marathon, I’ve also seen affected in ways I couldn’t imagine. I know it’s not just my friends who have had to deal with cancer, in some way or another everyone has, sadly some much more than others. All these reasons contribute to why we will be donating to a cancer foundation.

Just giving you guys a quick update. We are now less than 2 weeks away from the event and are very excited. First off we would like to thank our first 2 Pre event donors Janet Allen of Australia and Katie Little of the U.S. and 1 anonymous donor. I'm not going to specify there amounts because I dont have their permission, but I can tell you that our donations as a whole are just under $60.

Please continue to spread the word, post in forums, send links over instant messenger, anyway you can spread the word will be appreciated. Hello everybody,

I've tried to figure out the best way of doing the prize system, and this is what I have come up with. During each session (session being the time between the start of a game and the ending) everyone who e-mailed us during that session will be put into a drawing for that specific session. No matter if you send us 1 email or 100, you have the same chance of winning. After the completion of a game a name will be drawn and announced using a randomizer program. That means any one person can have a total of 7 chances to win if you send us an email during all 7 sessions. In the emails you don't need to say anything in particular like "enter me in the contest", you're automatically entered. We would simply like you to speak your mind, say whatever you want, ask whatever you want. Please do not use multiple email accounts! You can email us multiple times on one account, we encourage that and would love your feedback; just don't use multiple email accounts to enter more than once in each session. If you get caught doing this we will have to disqualify you from the drawing. The prizes are sent both via Mail, and also through Nintendo's Shop channel gift system. This prize give away is a worldwide event, not limited to America. I'm not real sure on how the Virtual gift system, works..I'm hoping I can send Virtual console games to everyone, I'll do some more research and report my findings. The Prizes and shipping are paid for by us, all donations are going to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Quick Update

Hi guys,
Thanks for all your support and mail. Just wanted to keep everybody up to date and let you know that we will be releasing a youtube promo soon, one made by us and another made by a supporter. Also, a full list of the prizes and prize details will be announced within the week. All prizes will be paid for by us, and WILL NOT be taken out of the donations. 100% of the donations we get will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

We would also like to thank Will D'angelo again from www.thewiicast.com. Thewiicast has spread the word tremendously and brought us many supporters. We cant thank Will enough.
TheSpeedgamers would also like to give a big thanks to www.mywii.com.au for posting a story about us. They have also help spread the word greatly. All in all we have received viewers from over 20 countries now!

Lastly, we will be putting out a flyer soon that you will be able to download from our website. Any help speading the word will be appreciated. We've had one viewer named Tommy from California who printed out over 100 copies and posted them in his school, awesome Tommy.

The Wiicast

We want to thank Will D'angelo from the Wiicast for helping promote our event on his episode released today. We really appreciate what he did for us.

We are talked about in the viewer mail portion of his show(about the 30 minute mark of the episode). I myself have been a viewer since episode one, its been really cool to see how his show has evolved.

His website is www.thewiicast.com which has weekly episodes ranging from 20-35 minutes long featuring reviews, viewer mail,Virtual console pick of the week,news and rumors. He also has his own forums which has a nice community of fans of both the show and the wii. If you're gamer you should definitely take a look.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Hey guys, after all the emails we've decided on a cancer foundation of our fans' choice. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has been the majority of suggestions thus far. This is a great foundation working hard to find a cure for the unfortunate amount of children who have been diagnosed with cancer. We appreciate all the feedback about the choice! Donation Decision

After thinking awhile on the topic of donations, I’ve came to a conclusion. At first I didn’t want to take any donations to avoid any controversy. I had a change of heart and have decided that since we are going to be gaming for 72 hours straight we might as well do it for a good cause. The next decision was what charity should we donate to? First of course I thought of Childs Play because gaming and Childs Play go hand in hand…no brainer. But then I wanted to think for a little bit longer before I took a leap and announce a charity. After a couple of minutes I knew exactly where the money would go. You will be hard pressed to find anybody who cancer has not affected their lives. Going through the list of people involved in the marathon triggered the idea initially.Two of the three possible hosts have lost very close family members due to cancer, and I personally would not be able to handle mentally what they have had to. Furthermore, several of my close friends that won’t be doing the marathon, I’ve also seen affected in ways I couldn’t imagine. I know it’s not just my friends who have had to deal with cancer, in some way or another everyone has, sadly some much more than others. All these reasons contribute to why we will be donating to a cancer foundation. I haven’t specifically decided which one we will donate to, suggestions would be helpful. Join us on Friday March 14, 2008 @5 pm CST to watch us take on the Zelda franchise and also to help raise money for a good cause. Email us at TheSpeedGamers@gmail.com

More details on the 72 Hour Zelda Marathon

Well, looks like most everything has been set, now the wait begins....
Here is what we have decided.
-The marathon will begin Friday March 14 @ 5pm Cst and end Monday March17@5pm Cst.
-3 web cams will be used to keep traffic minimal and to prevent lag for viewers. All the audio will be from the same source so that you can here the host clearly. The 3 web cams will give you different angles while all including a view of the host and the game being played.
-3 gamers will be completing 7 games in 72 hours. Heres the list of games again.
2d Zelda's:
(NES)The Legend of Zelda (Virtual Console)
(NES)Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link (Virtual Console)
(SNES) Zelda: A Link to the Past (Virtual Console)

3d Zelda's:
(N64) Zelda:Ocarina of Time (will be played on the N64)
(N64)Zelda: Majoras Mask (will be played on the N64)
(Gamecube) Zelda:Windwaker
(Wii)Zelda:Twilight Princess

-3 hosts (not the same 3 who will be playing the games) will be reading through emails and keeping things interesting.
-We will be giving out Zelda games and merchandise to a few lucky people who email us. Upon completion of each game a name will be drawn. That means a total of 7 chances to win.

Beating the Zelda Franchise in 72 hours

Me and a couple of my friends have decided to take a shot at beating all the Zelda's (excluding the gameboy versions and the crappy panasonic versions) in 72 hours. The list includes
2d Zelda's:

3d Zelda's:
(N64) Zelda:Ocarina of Time

We will make our attempt around the 10th of March(2008), thats when our spring break starts.
More details and an exact date will be in the days to come. All 72 hours will be displayed live via webcam with full audio.
Also, we are interested in maybe at some point in the future tackling other series such as Metroid Prime,Mario..ect..Depending on the success and interest of our first attempt.
